A cég több mint száz éves múltra tekinthet vissza. Jelenlegi formájában 1964 óta létezik, amikor egyesült a német AGFA AG és a belga Gevaert Photo-Producten N.V. Ez volt egyben az első határokon átnyúló cégegyesülés az akkori EGK-en belül. 1981-től a Bayer cégcsoport 100%-os tulajdona, majd 1999-től mint Agfa-Gevaert N.V. bevezetésre kerül a brüsszeli tőzsdén. Az Agfa jelenleg 40 országban képviselteti magát saját céggel valamint több mint 120 országban rendelkezik viszonteladói hálózattal. Több mint 20.000 ember dolgozik világszerte a cég sikere érdekében. Közponunk Mortselben (Belgium) található, Antwerpen mellet. Hazánkban közel húsz éve van jelen az Agfa. 2006 óta a HealthCare részleg mint regionális központ is működik, miközben Agfa Graphics részlegünk a középeurópai régió részeként aktív.
