Kékfestő, Kékfestő kereskedelem

textilek mintazásának, festésének tudománya Indiában, Kínában és Egyiptomban már évezredek óta ismeretes, s ez a technika a kereskedelem révén, a római hódítások nyomán a Földközi-tenger térségében is folyamatosan elterjedt. Maga a kékfestés Indiából származik, mely Európába török közvetítéssel a XVI.sz-ba került. Magyarországra a XVII.században holland hajórakományon érkezett az első kelet-indiai indigó szállítmány, mely a kékfestés nélkülözhetetlen alapanyaga volt. A nyomott kelmék az egyházi használat mellett először a főúri viseletekben jelentkeztek

The technique of the painting and dyeing of fabric has been practiced in India, China and Egypt for thousands of years. Then, as a result of trade and the Roman invasion it gradually spread to the Mediterranean. Blue-dyeing, specifically, originated in India, but with Turkish influence it made its way to Europe in the 16th century. The first cargo of south Indian indigo, the basic ingredient of blue-dyes, was shipped to Hungary by the Dutch in the 17th century. Clothing made with printed patterns was first worn by the clergy and members of the aristocracy. The first written mention of blue-dye appeared in Hungarian texts in the 1770s
