Hungary became a full member of the community of the developed European states on 1st May, 2004. I believe that the Hungarian regions and small regions will become the greatest winners of the accession. One of the major objectives of the European Union is to reduce or eliminate disparities in development between the individual member states and regions. This purpose is to be realised by the regional policy, the implementation of which belongs to the scope of regional development institutions in each country.
