A VEGYTERV 1950-ben alakult azzal a céllal, hogy a magyar vegyipar rekonstrukciójához és fejlesztéséhez az engineering-tevékenységet szolgáltassa. Kezdetben a vegyipar fejlesztése a fejlett ipari országok technológiájától elzártan csak a VEGYTERV tervezési tevékenységére támaszkodhatott. A körülmények változása később lehetővé tette fejlett technológiák vásárlását is. Így került a VEGYTERV kapcsolatba számos, világszerte ismert engineering-irodával.

The VEGYTERV was founded in 1950 with an objective to provide engineering to the reconstruction and development of the Hungarian chemical industry. At the beginning the development of the chemical industry was isolated from the technology of the developed industrial world, it could only relay on the engineering and designing work of the VEGYTERV. Later the change of the circumstances made possible even to buy up-to-date technologies. This is how the VEGYTERV established relationship and contact with many worldwide known engineering offices (e.g. Kellog IC, Norks-Hydro, Lurgi, Sumitomo, De Nora, Badger, Shin-Etsu, Chisso, Linde).
